Tax-free Hurricane Supplies Starts Today
St. Augustinians have endured two major hurricanes and several tropical storms. Luckily, St. Augustine is resilient, and so are its people. Tomorrow, June 1st, 2019, marks the start of this year’s hurricane season. This year, the meteorologists have predicted 13 named tropical storms will form, five of which will become hurricanes.
The State of Florida is urging residents to get ahead of this year’s storms. From May 31st to the 6th, hurricane preparedness supplies are tax-free in preparation of the season. Tax-free items must remain under the cost limit of the category to which they belong. The cost limit for tax-free items is set by category.
Tax-exempt items by price limit:
Under $10 – reusable ice-packs
Under $20 – Portable, self-powered light sources including handheld lamps, flashlights, candles, powered by battery, solar, crank, or gas
Under $25 – Gas and fuel canisters and containers
Under $30 – ice chests, coolers (non-electric), batteries including AA, AAA, D, C, 6 and 9-volt
Under $50 - Bungee cords, ground anchors, two-way or weather band radios (powered by battery, solar, or crank), ratchet straps, tarps and other waterproof sheeting
Generators are also included in the list of tax-free hurricane supplies. However, the total cost of the unit must be under $750 to qualify.
Hurricanes can be frightening. To many Floridians, a hurricane is just another rainstorm, and an excuse for a rocking hurricane party. It is imperative that we learn from the storms that have visited us in recent years and ready ourselves for the potential event of another major storm. Preparedness never comes too early, so stock up today and save yourself some moolah!
Nothing is more stylish than safety.
